Spanish and Secondary Education
In collaboration with the Department of Education, Modern Languages and Literatures majors may follow a joint program in Modern Languages/Secondary Education to prepare themselves to teach Spanish at the secondary school level. Students in the joint program will complete a major program in Spanish (see below) and a minor program in education (seven courses, including student-teaching internship). Courses in language, literature, conversation, civilization, linguistics, and methodology, along with the appropriate education courses, will help students acquire the skills and knowledge necessary for successful teaching. Modern Languages and Literatures majors who wish to avail themselves of this program should consult the undergraduate advisers in both departments as soon as possible in their undergraduate careers in order to insure that they make room in their schedules for all the required courses in both fields. In Spanish, the undergraduate advisor for this program is Dr. Margaret Ann Kassen, kassen@cua.edu. The program advisor in Education is Dr. Agnes Cave, cave@cua.edu.
