I am currently a Senior pursuing a double major in Political Science and Spanish for International Service. I moved to the U.S. at the age of 6 from Managua, Nicaragua. The Spanish Club allows me not only to help others who want to learn a different language, but also to appreciate my Hispanic heritage.

I am a sophomore Social Work major with a minor in Spanish for International Services. I am from Yorktown, New York. I am excited to be a part of the Spanish Club so that I can learn more Spanish and meet others with the same passion.

CUA Spanish Club is committed to not only learning about the languages and cultures of the Hispanic World, but seeing, tasting, and feeling it. Since we started running the club we have had the opportunity to watch a great array of movies from Spain, Mexico, Argentina, or Nicaragua; enjoy theater outings in DC; eat at authentic Spanish restaurants; co-host campus-wide events such as Hispanic Heritage Month, Fall Fiesta, or the World’s Fest, and help students in Spanish by running a weekly “tertulia”. Living in a city like DC and a community like Brookland with a growing Hispanic population has helped us develop a strong tie with the Hispanic community by organizing campus visits and info sessions for Hispanic students, collaborating in translation and interpretation tasks for the Stokes Public Charter School, and inviting wonderful speakers to talk about their experiences with the Spanish culture. For the years to come we will be constantly seeing, tasting, and embracing Hispanic language culture.
