CUA French graduates share their experiences

Recent French graduate Caitlin Porter (CUA 2014) has relocated to Denver, CO to do a year of service with Colorado Vincentian Volunteers. She has been placed as an intern with Lutheran Family Services, working with refugees and asylees from Africa, the Middle East, and Southern Asia and helping to provide the services they need to start their lives in America. She has found herself working with many clients from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which is a direct continuation of her senior thesis project on trauma and fiction in representations of genocide in Africa. She has been able to use her French and had also started to pick up Kinyarwanda, Kirundi, Swahili, Tigrinya, and other African languages. Caitlin is happy to share her post-graduation experiences with any interested students, and thinks it is especially important that people know they can use languages in several different fields—some of which she’s only just now starting to discover!
