Teaching and Service

 

Jennifer Maxwell serves as the Director of the Spanish for Health Care Certificate Program in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures and as the Director of the Spanish for Health Professionals Continuing Educating Certificate through Metropolitan School of Professional Studies(MSPS), as department committee chair of the Language for Special Purposes (LSP), and as the faculty advisor of The American Red Cross Student Club.

 

In 2007, Professor Maxwell joined the university and has taught Spanish for Health Care, Cultural Competence in Health Care and translation courses, from the beginning sequence of Medical Spanish 107-108, through advanced sequence of Medical Spanish 207-208 and 307-308, to an intensive Medical Spanish Health Care Internship. Most recently she developed four online Medical Spanish and Cultural Competence courses for the new Spanish for Health Professionals Continuing Educating Certificate.

 

Each spring she leads an international clinical practicum trip to Nicaragua for nursing and Spanish for Health Care students at the Roberto Clemente Clinic, serves on the advisory board of the clinic, develops other international medical clinical trips in Latin America and the Caribbean, and volunteers as a medical interpreter and translator. She is an active grant writer.
