• Department of Modern Languages and Literatures invites you all to “Italy and the Bourgeoisie”A Symposium organized by the Program of Italian of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at CUA, 10:00 am-5:30 pm April 6, 2006, Caldwell Hall 111

This symposium represents an opportunity to gather leading scholars of Italian arts, history, and literature, to examine what has been and will remain “essentially Italian,” as this century develops and how bourgeoisies, traditionally so crucial to cultural analysis, has been re-defined. We hope to offer fresh re-visions of Italian bourgeoisie – its role as an indicator, inspiration, and conscience in current pop and high culture, while also tracing the origins of this Italian identity in the past century.

• The Mastrangelo Family fund has generously sponsored a lecture by David Alan Brown, curator of Italian paintings at the National Gallery and a well-known specialist in Italian Renaissance painting who has spoken on Raphael's portrait of Bindo Altoviti, in McMahon 200 5:30 p.m. “Bindo Altoviti and Renaissance Portraiture”
