CUA in Washington Encompassing the District of Columbia, Northern Virginia, and Maryland, the Greater Washington, DC, area boasts a vibrant economy and a vast array of cultural resources. Washington's world-renowned cultural and political institutions include the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian, the Folger Shakespeare Library, the Woodrow Wilson Research Center, as well as other private and public organizations. Most important, DC is a crossroads of cultures and languages. The foreign embassies and their related cultural institutes such as the Goethe Institut, the Alliance Française, the Italian Cultural Institute, and the Mexican Cultural Institute, regularly offer a varied spectrum of internships and cultural activities (films, exhibits, lectures), many of which are free of charge.
